BIO

I have an undying desire to work in news radio as an anchor. The feeling of my voice being heard by people all over a region is unmatched. I don’t want to be limited to simply radio. I want to help local news stations in expanding their reach to my generation through social media and better websites.

I am Ethan Holder and I have an innate curiosity about the world around me. The little details captivate me in a way that inspires me to write. I value having creativity in my writing and not just going through the motions. The bigger picture is always made up of little details and I intend on finding them all. I truly want to have an understanding of the world we live in that is deeper than knowing the best pizza joint in town. I value hard work and discipline while not letting my work stand in the way of enjoying life.

I am currently majoring in electronic journalism and minoring in psychology at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. My major will help me put the little details on the page while my minor will help me understand the minor details that make up a person. I am working at the WSIU radio station as a news writer, audio editor, and I will also be starting to work with the TV station on news stories in the near future. I do research, interviews, and I post the stories on our website.

I was an Illinois State Scholar every year of high school and I graduated with over 30 college credit hours. I helped work two successful paw patrol meet and greet fundraisers to help a family adopt a sick boy from overseas so he could have a loving family and get the medical attention he needs.

A summer internship to help get exposure to other news formats and some more diverse stories is something I am actively looking for. Any opportunity to shadow and interview some journalists would be a phenomenal opportunity.
